On the other side of the coin, fostering age-friendly workplaces, that value the diverse experiences and insights of all employees, is just as important as remaining cognisant of our language about our over 50 colleagues in the media.
Research suggests that give an over 50 year old some leadership direction and off they’ll trott and do the job.
Many people, particularly those who have enjoyed long and meaningful careers,ย do like to work.ย Additionally, those over the age ofย 40 are three times more likely to create successful companiesย as a result of their patient, collaborative natures, and their lack of a โneed to prove myselfโ attitude.
The HBR article “The Case for Hiring Older Workers” byย Josh Bersinย andย Tomas Chamorro-Premuzic suggests, “As the global economy ages, ageism bias will become a more important issue than ever. Put the terms โlongevityโ and โageโ into your wellbeing and recruiting strategies for starters… “
We think GreyMatter.Studio has found a good employer example to share. Listen up;
Andrew shares, “At Whistle, we are an ageist employer by osmosis, not design. All our employees are pretty much 50+ >> and we think that’s a good thing! Our work focuses on Aged Care communications for staff and the connectivity to their residents via the nurse call system, so we have a unique insight into the daily impact of assumptions of digital divides.”
So we delved a little further and asked what it was like to be an over 50’s workforce.
We thought it would be like a start up of investors committed to the cause?
However, Andrew shares, “The team at WhistleMe are people who were interested from the get go and then wanted to be involved more. Some initiated as general catch ups, then naturally folded into them crafting their own position. This has been great in many ways as we moved from startup to a company with more process and โrulesโ.”
“I have no idea where we would be without these folks, they are all very much part of our product and customer journey. “
“Having mostly worked at IBM, they are all professional and understand how to act and look after said customers.”
Whistle is designed in Australia by some smart entrepreneurs. It is a stylish software solution delivered through smart phones that bridges the gap in the vital role of communications in Senior Living Communities.
