They went travelling again
First morning on the road
Zoom meeting at 9.15
Power to Van can run off the two Lithiums on back of the Ute, left it plugged in all night, not a good idea, just not enough to run stuff, solar on for 2 hours, batteries back to full charge. Lesson learned.
Check internet connection. Optus 1 bar, Starlink very flaky, reason we parked under some trees. Lesson learned donโt park where you donโt have a clear skies..
Meeting done, and some work done as well!
Second day on the road
Penrose Park in Silverton, Unpowered.
Starlink Cable broke, original is at home. Can still make I work but not very good.
Emptied the grey and black water tanks.
Moved to the Bash on site as early volunteers, and started charging the batteries using solar, solar is not on the vanโs roof as yet, will get it done at some stage to make life easier. Toilets across the road and nearby the main event area.
Corinne did her first stint as Road Marshall this afternoon, Not too many rude people only one or two I believe.
Leftover food from home for Dinner.
Third day on the road
3 days without hooking up to power.
Very overcast and a sprinkle of rain came through this morning. Wind gusts up to 65 km per hour today as well.
Solar still charging even though not much sunshine.
Second shift for Corinne, 7am start. Free Volunteer barbeque this afternoon, so will have a small lunch today.
Fourth day on the road
Woken up at 12.43am with heavy rain.
And discovered bottom of the bed was wet as. Leak in the vent. Van was level. Mmmm, need to sort. Rain gone for a few days we hope. Changed the level of the van to try and get water to run off in stead of just sitting on the roof. That worked all good.
Sunshine for rest of the Bash.
10 Days not plugged in to power.
Used the tank water sparingly and it lasted the 10 days as well.
Day 11 and afterwards
Emptied the Black water, need an adjustment to the outlet pipe.
Overnight in a Caravan Park. Batteries charged and water filled.
Off to Melbourne for a few days to see the Grandkids.
Added an Inverter inside the van, tidied up some cabling and fixed the water leak on the vent.
Ready for the next few weeks.
Mainly off grid while also visiting friends and family on way to the Sunshine Coast.
Got a powered site for a few days. We didnโt fill the water tank as we thought there was water on the site. Turned out there was no potable water.
Had to go get water in the spare water tank on the Ute. Then transfer to the caravan tank. Painful but it worked.
Then made our way back home slowly.
Missed a turnoff and had to go back via a dirt road.
Plastic tap underneath got smashed and lost all our water. Discovered that at our next free stop. Goodooga hot pools. Managed to put a stop on end of pipe and refill with water.
Ever heard of dirty fuel?
That is when you fill up and the fuel has impurities in it or just plain dirt..
Car started struggling, got a new Fuel filter fitted in Broken Hill. Drove off and a few kmโs down the road and it started again with fuel not pumping through properly.
Got to Clare, saw the dealership there and they looked at it within an hour. Great service Ford!
Asked me when the fuel filter was changed as it was really bad.. Question, did the previous Dealer actually changed it?
After they sorted it and cleaned a few more things, and only charged me for the filter, back to normal..
Got home after more than 6 weeks on the road.
Summary
Pack for the season
Donโt take too much food you are never going to eat
Service Car and Caravan before leaving
Always have enough drinking water with you.
Have some tools and spares with you in case you need it.
Expect the unexpected.
Make sure you can charge your phones and Laptops in the Car while travelling.
Have Fun and support the small towns, and talk to the locals.
Pubs in the small towns are great FUN, and you meet interesting locals.
You can live off grid with planning.
We only used 4 paid Caravan Parks over the 6 week period, including a farm stay.
Avoid the big Cities unless that is what you like.
We used PetolSpy to find the cheapest fuel around, and saved heaps.
Make sure you have enough fuel to get to the next Fuel stop, sometimes over 250km away!!
And finally, try the different Pies wherever you go, you get so many different ones.
What a wonderful experience overall.
