2025: Reframing Ageing. One Story at a Time.

Ageing is still too often positioned as a problem to be managed, even with half of Hollywood getting on the bandwagon.

In 2025, GreyMatter.Studio continued to challenge this framing. We expect better and research shows its worth it. So, this year, we doubled down on a simple but underrepresented truth: older people are not winding down. They are building, contributing, mentoring, experimenting, and leading change.

Our editorial focus shifted the lens from decline to agency, from silence to visibility, from stereotype to substance. The project itself first began without ceremony on a living room floor, coffee in hand, laptop open, and a clear sense that too many meaningful stories were being left out of the public conversation. That clarity has guided every editorial decision since.

GreyMatter.Studio starts, survives and succeeds with people. In 2025, those inspiring us were:

Maureen, who when 70 committed to one new challenge every year, and kept going to 2025 when she had her first window display at Tarts Collective in Gays Arcade.

Kim, a painter redefining creative identity later in life.

Richard, lifting weights and winning medals in the process.

Jane, a breadmaker proving slow living is rejuvinating community.

Bel, sharing insight and joy, one sharp observation at a time.

Plus, storytellers, networkers, advocates, creatives, travellers and more!

Collectively, these stories did what statistics alone cannot: they helped shift perception for those who happened on our news feed… and as Charlie’s reflection captured;

โ€œOne of the biggest compliments for 2025 has been the acknowledgment of people appreciating seeing inspiring over-50s doing stuff. This was never meant to be about one person. It was always meant to be a collective; people enjoying life, thriving in life, excelling in life.โ€

And that validation matters.

โ€œThereโ€™s just not enough of this in media land. To hear that people love seeing it confirms why we started. The reason is valid and thatโ€™s what keeps this going.โ€

In a media environment still overly focused on youth as currency, GreyMatter.Studio has taken a different position: experience is value, ageing is not a liability, and visibility drives change.

As we close out 2025, the outcome is clear. The narrative is shifting. The audience is growing. The impact is tangible.

Thank you for being part of it.

Weโ€™re not done yet.
