There are friends who drift away, and friends who stay.
Over the decades, I’ve known both and after nearly 60 years of life, I see that each leaves their mark in different ways. It’s the ones who remain and who remember your stories, who’ve seen you at your best and your worst, that make milestone moments deeply meaningful.
Turning 60 isn’t just another birthday. It’s an honour. A milestone not everyone reaches. I say this not as a throwaway sentiment, but from a place of lived truth. My twin brother died when we were just 35. Since that day, I’ve carried both his memory and the quiet reminder that life is precious, fragile, and far too fleeting.
That’s why I believe ageing is not a burden, it’s a privilege. One we must respect. One we must nurture through good health, meaningful connection, and a deep gratitude for every sunrise.
So here’s to the ones still walking beside us; to the years ahead, may we never take them for granted. –Charlie
