The Original Work-From-Home: Style, Socials and a Splash of Sparkle

Before remote meetings and home offices became the norm, the real “work from home” involved a far more sociable setup: the party plan.

Makeup, linen, candles, fashion, jewellery.

Whatever the product, there was always someone ready to open their front door, pour a glass of something bubbly, and turn a casual afternoon into a mini marketplace.

It was commerce wrapped in community.

Neighbours, friends, and friends-of-friends gathered not just to browse, but to connect. The laughter was genuine, the advice freely given (“That colour looks so good on you!”), and the sales pitch softened by the scent of coffee and home baking – or champers!

Fast-forward a few decades, and while the landscape of retail has shifted, a few familiar names have stayed the course. Postie and By Willa are still quietly delivering that same blend of comfort and style, one living room at a time. No high-pressure sales, just a relaxed try-on session with the reassuring phrase, “Yes, you can buy more online later.

We spent the afternoon at Barb’s because where else would you catch up, swap stories, and discover that perfect jacket?

Some things never go out of style.

These gatherings might look different now, but their spirit remains: women supporting women. Always xx
